Here is our new fostering film “Childhood” which looks at some of the challenges children and young people face before they come into care. Every child deserves a childhood and to have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. Our looked after children need someone who can provide for them and who will offer love, nurture, and stability. Could you do this? Enquire with us today to find out more.
Bury Council is part of a new collaborative partnership between all 10 local authorities in Greater Manchester, all working together to recruit foster carers who can provide a loving and safe home to children in care in Greater Manchester, increasing and enhancing placements for children and young people locally.
For the first time, anyone considering fostering in our region will now benefit from a united, single support hub, which is backed by the Department for Education.
Local councils across Greater Manchester are joining forces to grow the number of fostering households that can make a difference to the vulnerable children and young people in need in our communities.
You will continue to be supported by our experienced fostering team at Bury Council throughout your application, but our wider Greater Manchester community and Hub officers are also here to offer additional support and guidance throughout your fostering journey. Everyone is on-hand to support you from the initial application process and beyond. We are a fostering community for Greater Manchester and you’ll be supported by other teams within Bury Council.

We need more Foster Carers within the local area to help children remain living in Bury close by to their community, school, friends and family.
Fostering
We provide different types of fostering to meet the needs of individual children. This includes short- and long-term fostering, supported lodgings, and family and friend carers.
Guardianship
We also support applications for Special guardianship orders, whereby foster carers can take parental responsibility to a child until they are grown up.
Allowance
Although carers are not entitled to claim child benefits or tax credits, they will receive fostering allowances and fees to cover maintenance and special occasions.
